New District Grand Prefect and District Annual Meeting

On Saturday 15 November,  V.W. Bro. Scott Cargill P.G.Reg. was installed as our new District Grand Prefect, in succession to R.W. Bro. Colin Woodcock MBE who last month was made Deputy Grand Master.

The installation was conducted by M.W. Bro. Thomas Firth Jackson and his team of Grand Officers in front of an audience consisting of 1 Deputy Grand Master, 2 Past Deputy Grand Masters, 1 President of the Executive Committee, 11 District Grand Prefects and approximately 140 other brethren from across the country and London. It was certainly a packed Grand Temple!

Following the installation, R.W. Bro. Scott Cargill then proceeded to invest his Deputy - W. Bro. Peter Warner P.G.J.D. - an Allied mason known to many brethren up and down the country.

Once the formal business of the investitures was completed, the Grand Master then proceeded to bestow a field first appointment (P.G.St.B.) to W. Bro. David Ashbolt of the Council of Four Kings for his sterling work selling charity breast jewels which was a complete surprise for David! The Grand team then retired for canapes and drinks while R.W. Bro. Scott Cargill concluded the rest of his District meeting in a record 25 minutes.

After the meeting there was time for pre-luncheon drinks before 110 brethren sat down to dine.

The new District Grand Prefect presented the Grand Master, the GDC (R.W. Bro. Glyn Goddard) and the A.G.Sec. (W.Bro. Michael Caseman-Jones) with gifts and in his response to the toast by the Grand Master Scott paid tribute to Colin for his 15 years of service to London Allied Masonry.

Following the meal, the brethren either retired to the bar or headed home - and judging by the smiles on everyone's faces the day had been thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Autumn Social Event 2025

A splendid crisp autumn day awaited members of the District, along with their partners and friends for the District's Autumn Social Event at the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn in central London. Attendees assembled in the undercroft of the chapel in the magnificent grounds of Lincoln's Inn to await their tour guides for the day.

With 39 in attendance, the group was split in 2 and conducted around the magnificent buildings and rooms. Both guides were historians from the library and were extremely knowlegeable of the history and architecture of the site. From the undercroft we visited the Chapel situated above, where we saw possibly a member of the OSM in the stain glass, Robert Roupell who was Treasurer in 1863 (See the photos). From there we moved on to the Old Hall which dates back to the 13th century with its original ceiling still intact. We were then treated to a viewing of the smallest building in London, an Ostler House.

Moving on we visited the Drawing room and Library. Unfortunately we were unable to take pictures in the library which was a shame because it was like walking onto a film set as it looked strangely familiar and has been seen in many film and TV shows.

The final room was The Great Hall, where we had lunch. This was basically their canteen, but what a canteen!! We sat down to eat and were treated with a Latin delicacy "Magnus mac et fricta!!", a local dish favoured by the legal profession, M'Lord.

Suitably fed attendees made their farewells and departed to make their way home.

Congratulations Colin

Tuesday 28th October was not only a special day for R.W. Bro. Colin Woodcock MBE, but also for members of the District of London of the Allied Masonic Degrees.

Assembled in Grand Temple at Freemasons’ Hall for the Grand Council meeting, we all awaited eagerly to see our out going District Grand Prefect installed as the new Deputy Grand Master. Having been our District Grand Prefect for the last 15 years the members of the District were well aware of Colin’s qualities of leadership and although sad to lose him as our DGP, delighted that his qualities had been recognised and being promoted to Deputy Grand Prefect.

Grand Lodge was duly opened by the Grand Master M.W. Bro. Colin Firth Jackson. The Grand Master thanked the out going Deputy Grand Master R.W. Bro. Ian Bailey for his service in the role. The Grand Director of Ceremonies was then tasked by the Grand Master to form an escort for the Deputy Grand Master Designate. Colin was then processed in with his escort, obligated, invested and proclaimed as the new Deputy Grand Master. I think all the London Brethren looking on felt very proud to see Colin invested, because although he was our District Grand Prefect, he was by his generous nature a friend to every brother in the District.

The meeting continued with the Grand Master making appointments and promotions to Grand Rank. With a number of London Brethren receiving honours. Indeed, our very own District Grand Secretary W. Bro. Richard Criddle was invested as Grand Standard Bearer and his first duty is likely to be at our District Grand meeting on 15th November when the Grand Master will be investing V.W. Bro. Scott Cargill as our new District Grand Prefect.

The Brethren of the District of London wishes R.W. Bro. Colin Woodcock MBE all the very best in his new role and thank him for all the support and work he has given to the District.
